Catching Fireflies and a mini cooking lesson....

Everyday as a mom is better than the last but somedays, I just don't feel like I am the best mom I can be.  Hayden is 19 months old now and he is really starting to test his boudaries, exude his independence and has definitely started voicing his opinions on matters.  He no longer wants mommy to do everything for him. He mimmicks everything we do.  The other day I was getting ready to cook dinner and Hayden was into EVERYTHING so I decided to do a "Mini" cooking lesson with him.  The stove was off of course. So, I pulled up the step stool ladder and got out a plastic bowl, wooden spoon, a spatula, some measuring cups,a whisk and a big water pitcher. Then I filled the bowl with some dry noodles and macaroni.  From there, I let his imagination run wild.  He pretended to stir up the noodles then I added some water to show him that they float. Then he wanted to pour those out. So I got out a pot and he poured out the water and dry noodles. Then I just started handing him random spices and stuff to put in it. Let's see, he added lemon juice, coconut, lemon pepper (and lots of it), worshestire sauce, and parsley for presentation. He cracked me up!  He would shake the pot like he was sauteeing the meal then he would taste test it with the big wooden spoon..I eventually had to call the taste testing because I was afraid he was gonna get a belly ache from the ingredients. LOL!
It was just fascinating because they really do watch everything we do and learn from it!  He sits in his highchair while I am cooking and when I think he is just playing he is learning.   I taped the whole thing because it was just priceless!!!  My baby is no longer a baby and it makes me sad.

At the same time though I feel like I am a mean mommy cause it seems like all I ever say is "No Hayden, don't touch that, or No-No Hayden", etc, etc... I miss the days of just playing with my sweet lil man.  But I love this age too.

Last night, we were playing in the yard and I saw the first fireflies of the summer and I was sooo excited!  I took Hayden back where they were and showed him.  He was excited too! Especially when mommy would catch one and let him hold it. He thought that was the coolest.  Everytime he would see one light up he'd gasp and point. So cute!!  I let him hold a couple but one of the fireflies was not so lucky when Hayden squished it between his fingers. Poor lil firefly. :)

Next week he has to go to the ENT to get his hearing checked.  At his 18 month check up the dr was concerned about his speech development because he wasn't saying the amount of words that most 18 months old. Which is 7-20 words.  Plus he's had so many ear infection and with his second set of tubes in we just wanna make sure everything is ok.   He is a lil booger cause he says stuff at the babysitter that he doesn't say at home. So I didn't know to count them.
So we will see how it goes. :)
